Your Iowa Colony pooper scooper
Dog poop removal in Iowa Colony.
Iowa Colony was founded in 1908 by the Immigration Land Company of Des Moines, Iowa, and two Iowans, G. I. Hoffmann and Robert Beard, gave it its name. The community got a post office in 1919, rice farming arrived the next year, and the 1948 oil discovery brought jobs to the area. It had incorporated by 1973, and in November 2020 its voters decided on a home rule charter.
Iowa Colony shares the 77583 ZIP code with Rosharon. Its newest homes are in master-planned communities like Sierra Vista and gated Sterling Lakes, with Lakes of Savannah close by in North Rosharon, and their walking trails and splash pads keep families outside. We serve all three from the Highway 288 side of our service area.
Yards in a new community are often smaller and closer together, so a missed week shows fast, and so does an open gate. That's why every visit ends with a photo of your closed gate, sent by text, so you know your dog is still inside the fence when we drive off.
Few towns around Houston have grown like this one. The Handbook of Texas puts Iowa Colony at 27 people for much of the 1900s, 804 in 2000, and 8,154 in 2020, then 10,883 a year later. Rice fields came first along what is now Highway 288; now the new communities bring splash pads and walking trails, and a lot of new dogs in new backyards.
With that many new homes, the city has leaned on its park rules: dogs on a leash, owners picking up, and fines of up to $500 a day at the city park. At home, the rule is the same idea on a smaller lawn. We walk the whole yard, double-bag what we find and put it in your outdoor trash bin, so your yard is ready for the kids and the dogs again.

Why it matters here
Iowa Colony drains to Chocolate Bayou, which runs southeast through Brazoria County to Chocolate Bay, and TCEQ lists the city in the bayou's watershed. Tests since 2010 have found high levels of the bacteria that come from human and animal waste. The state set bacteria limits for the bayou in 2024, and in August 2026 it approved the implementation plan local stakeholders wrote to bring those levels down. Pet waste picked up in a backyard is pet waste that never reaches it.
